Neat People - Carry You Upward/ Jane Go For A Drive

Carry You Upward/ Jane Go For A Drive by Neat People

4...according to our on Fri 11 May, 2007.

Moving swiftly onto Neat People and their 'Carry You Upward'. I wish there were more Neat People in this office. It gets in a bloody mess sometimes and isn't good fory my tidy OCD. Some of the vocal harmonies remind me of Queen. Infact this is a lot like Queen with bits of a less commercial sounding Coldplay. I like to think of all the butch hetrosexual men being astounded and horrified when they found out that their idol Freddy Mercury was gay. These guys have been bigged up by the NME and have played with the likes of Blondelle and Keith. 7" only on Rekabet.

‘A hearty bijoux bundle of fold out pop’ NME

‘These fashionable unfashionable, XTC-loving indie dorks are making the kind of gleefully 80s schmindie rarely heard since the woefully ignored Dogs Die In Hot Cars…we’ve got something quite special here.’ The Fly

‘NeatPeople’s demos have become X-Posure regulars…the prospect of a single later this year is already getting me excited’

XFM’s John Kennedy in Dazed & Confused

‘Proof that pop needn’t be a dirty word’  - Drowned In Sound

Essex foursome NeatPeople follow their ‘Baby I’m Bored’ debut, ushering in a second instalment of Costello-esque beat pop in the shape of new single ‘Carry You Upward’, released April 23rd, again through fledgling label Rekabet Records, on seven-inch vinyl and download. The flip, ‘Jane Go For A Drive’ pays homage to 40’s movie siren Joan Fontaine, sampling dialogue from Hitchcock’s 1940 classic ‘Rebecca’ (also starring Laurence Olivier).

NeatPeople’s effervescent, classic indie pop harks back the soul of Dexy’s, the tongue in-cheek nature of Blur, the summer-time feel of the Beach Boys and diversity of XTC (NeatPeople incidentally are managed by ex-Food Records boss Andy Ross), Their avowed mission from day one – to stop ‘pop’ becoming a dirty word.

NeatPeople are Gary Cansell (guitars, lead vocals), Marc Sephton (guitar, vocals), James Halls (bass, vocals) and Scott Lewis (drums).
