Bit late on this one. Ordered it as a Christmas present then, hahaha, kept it for myself. How this bunch of lads manage to inject such an individual, funky rocking spirit into a largely execrable "indie" guitar scene circa 2007 i'll never know. This is intelligent music for the masses executed with real savvy. As a second album it stands up to the debut sporting the sharpest shirt & the most amazing trainers you've ever laid ears on. They're described as a phenomenon. Well to these ears i can see why they've surpassed the next big thing benchmark with flying colours. The tunes just gallop by in a haze of colours, no filler just forward thinking guitar slinging rock, fresh & fluid, with no blatant nods to the past, just a reverential knowing wink. Even There's even a ballad 'Only Ones Who Know' that just reeks of Richard Hawley's hazy soul. Slay the nay sayers for this is an important British rock record that straddles the genres magnificently. Music that makes the neurons tingle & the butt wiggle!

What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our Alex feeling ecstatic.

Arctic monkeys second album has now arrived, so "Apes" are back! Expectations are huge at the band, because the first album was so brilliant, but if you heard the new "Brianstorm" single you can't hate the new album.I have now heard the new album so I can say that it was a big surprise to me, "Apes" have done an excellent job under big pressure.Album "Favourite Worst Nightmare" begins with Brianstorm which starts the show and then rocking on to five songs, then the album goes the relaxing way, but track 7 "Do Me A Favour" begins a new style of "Apes", it's a very working song I think that this song can be a big hit.The next song I expect to be the next big hit is track 11 "Old Yellow Bricks" this track has everything you need to be in the song and track "505" finishes the "Apes" album in a good way..Overall all songs from the album are very good. Favourite worst nightmare has everything that an album needs (Good sound, good lyrics and the voice), but the album can't reach the level of the first "Apes" album , but the second album was very close (maybe the third album can do it ).

What the label says:

The much anticipated follow up to Arctic Monkeys’ record-breaking debut. Haunting melodies and worst favourite dream characters are trademarks of the comeback album.  All the tracks on the album were produced by duo James Ford (The Klaxons, Mystery Jets) and Mike Crossey (Echo & The Bunnymen, The Coral) and also mainly mixed by Alan Moulder (My Bloody Valentine, Smashing Pumpkins, Yeah Yeah Yeahs).    The album will come in two formats: a very attractive and playful six panel digipack with a twelve page booklet; and gatefold heavyweight vinyl, which will leave both fans and record collectors very happy.
