The Heavy - That Kind of Man

That Kind of Man by The Heavy

4...according to our on Fri 13 Apr, 2007.

Industry mole Phil has reliably informed me that THE HEAVY have just signed to Ninja Tune. As soon as the needle hits the wax it's clear to see why as their heavy funk sound will sit comfortably on the label. Free Association, Curtis Mayfield and Sly and the Family Stone comparisons are being banded about the office. 'That Kind Of Man' builds in intensity and becomes quite noisy in it's climax. The groove is decent but surprisingly hasn't inspired 'Phil snake hips' Leigh to come over and bust a move. This 7" comes on Evil Kitty comes with a free badge that will have your fellow funksters writhing with sheer jealousy down at the local funk disco.

This just in... The Heavy are going to be signed by Ninja Tune! Album in September, so those singles will be much sought after.
Debut single from this West Country four piece, produced by Alpha’s Corin Dingley, and mixed at Massive Attack’s studio. Which speaks volumes about the Heavy sound, a superb mix of rattling beats, soulful vocals, Sonics guitars (a side) and looped strings (b side). That Kind Of Man is a thundering introduction to a band currently finishing mixing their LP for release later this year. This reminds us of other pioneers from the West Country.
Kelvin Swaby, the leader of this group has previously sung vocals on Alpha’s albums.
