Woh boy!! here is Danish twinkle pop with somemuch needed distribution in the UK from the Towers. It's UNDER BYEN with their 2002 album entitled Det Er Mig Der Holder Traerne Sammen. First up its all sung in the beautiful language of Danish. Usually the only Danish I hear spoken is goalkeeping legend Peter Schmichael who sounds like a talking fog horn. However luckily for us and Under Byen they chose a Henriette Sennenvaldt with a voice that's devastatingly enchanting.... like an icicle in spring. Sometimes she's so close to the mic it's like she's on your shoulder whispering things in your ear that you can only guess at. Delicate and precise pianos and violins weave throughout the work and play against the emptyness left, creating a world of real beauty. Its got the same icy magic as Bjork and mixes with modern electronica in a similar way. Mingus is suggesting Hanne Hukkelberg. Sigur Ros fans have a look too. Here have a listen yourself. This album turned the Danish 'indie' landscape upside down when it arrived in 2002. And it still holds up. Utterly beautiful and adventurous. It got plenty of rave reviews, by the way...http://www.larsdideriksen.com/underbyen/subpages/pressclips.htmL
