Letters & Colours are a Sheffield band who make some nice springy bouncy indie pop music. Not in a twee kind of way though. I'm not entirely sure what they sound like but the press release is awash with names which are all filthy lies. There's something Wedding Present-y about the guitars and the vocals have a slight dark sound to 'em. It's not a bad tune though. Gaunt/ Plan A is 7" only folks on Mother Tongue Records. They've got 17000 myspace friends though. That so makes me feel like Billy nomates....LETTERS & COLOURS are a new 4piece band from SHEFFIELD, incredibly young and influenced by the sounds of Joy Division, Interpol and early Human League they make dark, minimalist, brooding, haunting melancholia. They are proud of their Sheffield roots, with I’m So Hollow, Artery and Visa Versa impacting on them in one way or another. Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Leonard Cohen and The Velvet Underground are also major influences on the bands overall sound. Essentially a live group, their recent performances have caused a stir amongst regular gig-goers, and they are part of the ‘word of MySpace’ internet fraternity, with a HUGE, and genuine MySpace friends list of nearly 17,000. Live: Selection of dates in April, May and June. Press : NME, Rocksound, DIS more to come. Radio : Plays on Xfm Manchester and 6Music. Internet : Impressively active MySpace site as well as the bands own website. Video : Being completed as we speak, will be up on YouTube and MySpace asap…Marketing : Single ads to run in NME week of release, though mostly concentrating on viral, online and street-level marketing through MySpace friends, the bands own street team and word of mouth.
