OVERVIEW: Already one of this year’s most inspiring and long overdue success stories, The Shins return with their second single Australia on April 9th 2007. Taken from their widely acclaimed and most successful third album Wincing The Night Away, this spine tingling album stand-out tinged with Johnny Marr-style guitar breaks and mandolin twangs further crystallises The Shins as masters of fractured melodies and heart-felt lyrics. Wincing the Night Away has taken the mainstream by surprise with its immense chart success, debuting at number 2 in the US Billboard charts and has since charted in the top 20 and higher across the whole of Europe, Australia and Japan as well as reaching number 16 in the UK. In less than a month since its release, the album has sold over 200,000 copies worldwide. Clearly, 2007 is going to belong to The Shins! The band’s meteoric rise in popularity culminated last weekend with two sold out, triumphant headline London shows at packed out Astoria and an intimate, fan-centric set at Bush Hall. Due to huge demand, The Shins have announced a further two dates in London at the end of March as part of their UK tour.
