INTERNATIONAL KARATE with More Of What We've Heard Before Than We've Ever Heard Before. More Post Rock.... and I'm currently listening to the longest guitar solo since I had the misfortune to stumble into since Led Zeppelin. Like a weaker Godspeed You Black Emperor. Atmospheric drifty rock. Track 2 has lovely female voice 'Falling Waters,' with the help of Melbournian songstress Laura Jean. It's musical journey through genres. Touching funk 80's synthn pop and shoegazey drfityness. Back into driving rock with stadium delay pedals and chugging bass lines. its alright that..."Perfect Skin" This is the finished version of the song featuring the vocals of Andrew Polydorou. The extreme distortions were fun to record but please do be wary, the quiet start leads to a wall rattling bass-distortion blowout, which is followed in turn by a nice resolution. featuring a soft-synth-mellotron choir of angels...Ahh. "Movement" This is also the final version of the tune as it will appear on the album. Thought I'd highlight the fine vocal work of Dan Brownrigg (of Light Says Solo). Our 80's influences come to the fore here and (believe it or not) an IK song it may actually be possible to dance to. The shadow of Simon Gallup/Peter Hook looms large - even without using a chorus pedal.
"A Shadow Told Me" Featuring the fist (and most likely last) ever use of slap-bass in an IK tune. Don't get me wrong, I have no issue with slap bass in itself (I actually think it's kind of funny), but it's a real pain to play, especially when you're trying to keep it 'real.' Either way the song is, comparatively, a floor filler. Feel the (Miami Vice/Jan Hammer/Keytar) heat. "Only Good Will Come Of This" After nearly ten years banging out 8 minute plus 'post-rock' dramatics IK decided to go the 3 minute pop tune. Here is, in my opinion, our best crack at it. I also wanted to give it a nice upbeat name because let's face it - look in your record collections - most indie rock is as downbeat and mopey as shit. MM out.
