Rothko - Eleven Stages Of Intervention

Eleven Stages Of Intervention by Rothko

4...according to our on Thu 26 Apr, 2007.

Another old name now. Rothko. Yep they also have a whole new album out on French label Bip Hop. Rothko used to consist of 3 bass players and after a number of line up changes there's 4 of 'em on this release (only 2 bass player) but they make a lovely warm floaty drifty noise which will make you all fluffy inside. It's very cinematic and atmospheric music which I thoroughly enjoyed and will now 'officially' heartily endorse with my fat stamp of approval. Haunting and melancholy are the other words which spring to mind. Lovely

Following releases on such visionary labels as Foundry, Lo, Bella Union, Too Pure and Kraak, Bip_Hop is pleased to announce the release of Rothko's newest 10-track album. Following collaborations with Susumu Yakota (Distant Sounds Of Summer) and Caroline Ross (A Place Between), Rothko continue to create a warm and inviting sound, where solitary keyboard melodies develop out of exploratory passages, and fragile beauty intertwines effortlessly with somber basslines. Where Rothko's 2002 Too Pure CD ‘A Continual Search For Origins’ is said to find its base in leader Mark Beazley's visits to Switzerland, ‘Eleven Stages Of Intervention’ immediately points listeners to a similar mapping of interpersonal relationships, stories and insights. 'Sit In Silent Thought' (a full-band reworking of the track from last year’s ‘Personal Account Of Conflict’ EP) and 'Break The Cycle Of Sorrow' (revisiting ‘Dreams For An End To Sorrow’ on 2003's ‘Wish For A World Without Hurt’) act as familiar, yet renewed and redrawn pages in the Rothko sound-diary. 'Weather Every Storm' along with 'Give.Every.Thing' and 'Watch The Black Sun Fade' are additional stand-out tracks. The music of Rothko at equal turns challenges and comforts the listener, seeming at first perhaps confrontational, before ultimately becoming  nurturing. Familiar passages evolve from their improvisational ether, as healing follows conflict. ‘Eleven Stages Of Intervention’ -- the band's eleventh full-length release -- adds much to Rothko's already innovative and impressive catalogue.
