KLIMA is an artist that I've never heard of. Apparently she is from Piano Magic. Or so I thought. Apparently her track 'The City' is used on the Hugo Boss Femme TV commercial. So that makes sense when I realize her self titled album is out on Peacefrog who after being a struggling cutting edge techno imprint rake in loads of money by licensing singer songwriter tracks to multi-nationals. But hey you got to make a living and they do release some quality music. This fits neatly into their roster of Jose Gonzales, Marissa Nadler. Erm very mature sounding. Not like me. Parp!

Klima is the nom-du -disc of French musician Angele David-Guillou who has already made a name for herself in two bands; Piano Magic and Ginger Ale, a classically educated musical all-rounder blessed with a dreamily sensuous voice.    Since first guesting with Piano Magic (she has contributed to all the band’s critically lauded albums and EPs since 1999) Angèle’s French career has also blossomed. Soon after the Piano Magic hook-up she began working with the French band Ginger Ale - then signed to Virgin France. The band’s cover of Siouxsie & The Banshees’ ‘Happy House’ was a club hit in Paris and London (with popular remixes by Dexter and Antoine de Crécy). Ginger Ale’s 2002 album ‘Laid Back Galerie’ featured a clutch of Angèle vocals, including a duet with Etienne Daho. With the band now comprising Angèle (who handles vocals and lyrics) and Stéphane Bertrand (who looks after the music) they released a critically acclaimed LP – ‘Daggers Drawn’ - on Bertrand’s Crazy Car Driver imprint in February 2006. While this frenetic activity whirled, Klima was quietly maturing in a corner. Angèle started releasing tracks under the name in 2002, initially for two compilation albums and a split single with Piano Magic. She began recording tracks for the debut ‘Klima’ album in 2004. Composed and programmed by Angèle at home on her 8-track machine and recorded with Piano Magic’s Jerome Tcherneyan at the controls, Klima’s full debut synthesises her miscellaneous musical experiences to date and represents the full flowering of her very obvious talent. Already a name to drop in the hippest circles on the other side of La Manche, it’s as Klima that Angèle seems set to make her biggest splash yet.

Beautiful voice and music. Eerie blend of electronic programming and haunting guitars. The songs grow on you and you come back to listen to them again and again.
