If it wasn't for the fact that I was listening to a CD I'd swear that the first track on URBAN TRIBE's 'Acceptable Side Effects' album was on the wrong speed. The first 12" on Rephlex was like this too. I reckon lots of people have been playing that too slow. I've got a DJ mix by him that's dead fast. Playing Basic Channel records on +16. Sherard Ingram is also know as Drexciyan DJ Stingray and here he lays down more of his bleak futuristic electro. It's quality gear but I can't help but feel that either something is missing or I'm missing something. There are a few standout tracks though like 'Fractional' which is well spaced out.length on Rephlex.
This man has, time and again, proved himself as one of the godfathers of Electronic Dance music, while managing to maintain a sub-aqua profile to avoid distraction and dilution of his sound.
Previous Rephlex album ‘Authorised Clinical Trials’ from Summer 2006 has been widely praised:
- IDJ 4/5: “It broods in the stereo like a cold-hearted killer; eventually jumping from the speakers, coming at you with an axe and the devil in its eye. Minimal it may be, but this album rolls heavy. Resist if you dare.
- FUTURE MUSIC: “Throughout the 15 tracks the integrity is retained, there’s no filler and there certainly ain’t no
concessions to current musical trends. If your curious to find out know what the real sound of Detroit Electro is then this will tune you in, direct from the motor city.”
- IGLOOMAG.COM: "...This album is a transport beam back to the 90s electro scene, one of dark, dingy clubs, sticky floors, deep bass lines and evil undertones... the early 90’s electro sound is just as good now as it was then, if not
better"
- GRIDFACE.COM: “Ingram is a Detroit techno legend. His second full-length spans bass-heavy electro to downtempo braindance. This is a really important (and enjoyable!) release.”
