How do you start to disect the difficult second album from one of your favorite new bands when yr still marvelling at all the joy & beauty of the first? Well....Our Earthly Pleasures from Newcastle's darling sons is all that is to be expected. Warp don't chuck around their money chasing any random indie band for fucks sake. This label has released some of the worlds most pioneering electronic music and they've slammed down a wad on this timeless outfit for a reason. It's the logical progression for white skinny guitar music. Business as usual for these Angels of the North. Fizzing melodies, excitable build ups, effortless crecendos, stomping drums, Paul Smith's clearly passionate & direct vocals...the whole history of indie music condensed into a streamlined machine. I think that's the problem. People expect every new band to do a 'Bends' or a 'Revolver' or summat revolutionary. Perhaps then this IS the revolution? This is fully grounded honest music with absolutely no pretentions or frills. When all these scenester bastards have fallen over their winkle pickers & mascara to claw another coke smeared NME award for twattishness out of Mick Jones's withered paw & then died, this mercurial 5 piece will be stood there rock solid with nothing more than a frown of indifference & a bevvy of utterly wonderful songs that you'll never tire of. This album is for all those people that thought The Wedding Present were talking to them back in the 80s. Lay a foundation & keep walking! MAXIMO PARK is flowering again.

What the label says:

The 25,000 tickets for Maximo Park’s 16 date spring tour sold out within 30 minutes - a testament to their electric live performances. ‘Our Earthly Pleasures’ was produced by Gil Norton of Pixies and Foo Fighters’ fame and boasts huge radio singles and fantastically developed, emotional songs, including a soaring ballad.
