I'm partial to a wee bit of ADULT. (Don't forget that full stop or 'period' if you're on the other side of the pond). Their latest work 'Why Bother?' as the title suggests sounds proper gloomy. I love the fact they ditched a lot of their electro sounds when the electroclash thing really kicked off. Even though they made the likes of Miss Kitten and Co sound like Mary Poppins. This is nightmarish analogue new wave horror malfunctioning electro filth. 'The Mythology Of Psychosis' and 'Good Deeds' for example are pretty upbeat stompers that would have any mosh pit going for it. The vocal is as demented as ever. In fact she's really on form here and the Siouxsie and the Banshees elements from the last LP are still present. Simultaneously future and retro. With smart artwork as ever that Client will no doubt rip off in the very near future. On Chicago's Thrill Jockey.

An Important Message from ADULT.: ·Uncomfortable, restless, disturbed, perturbed, awkward and anxious. "Why Bother?" hopes to spread the word of weird. Abnormal motivations, ready and willing. Trying to tilt the balance of over-stimulation. What is the next step if ‘Videodrome’ is not the endgame itself? Cataloging, categorizing, sterilizing, co-opting and over-hype marketing have created a social smothering and mass indolence. If you aren't inclined to vomit, than you will probably feel worse when exposed to our brand of folk.
