KIEREN HEBDEN and STEVE REID are back with their third collaboration album 'Tongues'. Upon reading the sleeve notes I was surprised to find that this was all recorded live in one take with no overdubs. The previous two albums were improvised (I think) and it seems they've really built up a good partnership after playing together. This sounds like they've gathered lots of ideas and prepared tracks before hand rather than the improvised jamming sounding tracks. 'Our time' has some beautiful electronics and Reid's percussion compliments it perfectly. I reckon this is probably the best thing they've done together with a good mix of far out experimental moments coupled with the odd accessible tune. CD and wax on Domino.Tongues’ is the new album from Kieran Hebden and Steve Reid and will be released by Domino Records. An impressive progression from the artists’ earlier ‘Exchange Sessions’, ‘Tongues’ is a more explosive work of music, a series of shorter tracks, a more focussed and even melodic blast – influenced by the heavy round of touring the duo have undertaken since their first musical encounters. The kaleidoscopic effects of Steve’s drumming and Kieran’s electronic chops and change – ups are all carved out and created in real time. ·Loved by old jazz heads and dance kids via drum ’n’ bass fans
