What we say This record left our Maggie feeling unmoved. LONGCUT (such a derivative name!!) are here with their new 7" Idiot Check on Melodic. An intense guitar band sounding with haunting chanting vocals over chiming guitars and predictable drums and Bass. Not a bad sound but the song never really takes us anywhere that special. Just grinds down a path pushing and shoving all the way. Be good live actually because its got quite an anthemic sound to it. Ok now they're peeking sounding a bit Forward Russia. B-sides a cover of You got The Love by Candi Stanton What the label says: Manchester’s sonic terrorists are set to start the New Year in style with news of a cracking double A side single, ‘Idiot Check/You Got The Love’. The former is a standout track from the band’s live set that didn’t quite fit the mood of last year’s critically acclaimed debut album, ‘A Call & Response’; the latter is exactly what you’re hoping it is - a post-rock cover of the classic The Source feat. Candi Staton track. And there’s a back-room change too - this release sees the band ’going indie’ with a 7"-only release on uber-cool Manc label Melodic. Limited to 500 only. About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
