I used to love UNSANE. My missus (of the time) was shocked by the disturbing record sleeves and I had to hide them from her fragile eyes cos the arguments just weren't worth it. They are pretty grim mind you. The one for the Sub Pop 7" is particularly nasty... Continuing their tradition of utilising 'fun pathology photos with Unsane', the new album (Visqueen) features a bloody looking body bag thing on. Cheery ole bunch. Hey it still sounds like Unsane mind you.... I don't like it as much as their earlier stuff but it's still filthy and scuzzy sounding gear. Albeit a bit better produced like. Loud slow hard rock which will eat your entire family and spit them out into a pile of bones and blood.... which they'll use on the front of their next album.*Brand new album from legendary NYC Noise-Rock powerhouse Unsane.
*The Unsane legendary trademark sound stamps all over the trio's new record.
Produced by Adam Schneider (Cave In), `Visqueen' is an assault of cold, ugly
distortion and gargantuan heavyness that will satiate diehard fans and garner
new ones.. it's bigger, better and as always, in your face.
*The original trio formed in 1988. Unsane have recorded albums for the legend
-ary labels Matador, Amphetamine Reptile, City Slang and more recently Relapse.
*During 1992, a furious recording and touring schedule came to an abrupt halt
with the untimely death of Charles Ondras. His replacement, former Swans/Foetus
drummer Vinnie Signorelli, joined the band in the fall of 1992.
*`Total Destruction' was released on Matador in 1994 , Co-produced by Martin
Bisi (Sonic Youth, Swans, Cop Shoot Cop). Here he band successfully upped
the ante on their patented blend of volume, velocity and violence, taking their
art toa new level of extremity. A tour with Entombed followed and Matador
released a CD of the band's Peel Sessions.
*The band returned to independent Amphetamine Reptile for 1995's Scattered,
Smothered and Covered which contained the unlikely video hit "Scrape," named
one of MTV's 10 all-time funniest videos. Made for only two hundred dollars,
the video stayed in heavy rotation for more than nine weeks on both MTV and
The Box.
*After a year of touring in support of Scattered..., including a Thrasher-
sponsored headlining tour of Europe, Unsane got the break of a lifetime
securing the support slot for Slayer's American tour. In 1998 Unsane signed
with Relapse Records.
*Now after a somewhat lengthy period of silence the world-recognized NYC noise
- rock kingpins have signed to Ipecac for the release of Visqueen, a heavy-as
-hell physical assault which is a stunning return to form.
