When that 1st JULIAN FANE album came out I was well impressed. I thought he was amazing and he's gonna be massive. A couple of years later his new CD called Our New Quarters is released on Planet Mu and now I think he's a whining get. What's changed? Well very little to be honest. But for some reason this really grates on me now. The opening track sounds like a manic depressive singing God Save The Queen which is just plain odd. He seems to whine in a sort of sub Thom Yorke misery style super whinge which makes me want to hurl things absolutely everywhere. Musically it's excellent. Somewhere between Sigur Ros and the entirity of Kid A. The track New Faces sounds exactly like it was written after an extremely enjoyable listen to Kid A.... mmmm I can do that!!*Vancouver based Julian Fane's second album, "Our New Quarters" is the
follow-up to 2004's acclaimed "Special Forces" and sees far more emphasis
on vocal songs than its predecessor.
*Fane's new pieces are grounded in live percussion, great swathes of strings,
indecipherable high-pitched vocals and lush sweeping synth effects which
form their emotional core.
*The Moon Is Gone, for instance, wallows deliciously in vast guitar-laden
melancholy and achieves a pristine beauty almost classical in tone.
