SHY CHILD I've never heard of. Their single 'Drop The Phone' has made it's way in my direction. This is a stop-start synth driven cut with the rhythm having an almost dancehall vibe. It's not exactly terrible but then a hugely unnecessary saxophone appears only adding insult to injury.7" on Wall Of Sound. Crikey.‘Drop The Phone’ / ‘Down On Yourself’ perfectly captures what this band are about – a truly unique sound that merges Timbaland, Devo, LCD Soundsystem and The White Stripes: a blend of electro, hip-hop, prog and punk that on paper shouldn’t work but in practise blows the roof off.. Such a reputation has seen Shy Child already sharing bills with the likes of The Chemical Brothers, CSS, Hot Chip, Klaxons, Spank Rock and Soulwax, and they are also making a name for themselves as producers in their own right, with a string of mixes for Editors, The Futureheads and The Archie Bronson Outfit, amongst others. With their new album produced by Chris Zane and Jason Boschoff (Basement Jaxx) due for release in May and a headline slot on the Wall Of Sound Shock Rock tour in February, 2007 is set to be be Shy Child’s year.
