What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Ant feeling happy.

Following on from the August Stars CD last week Make Mine Music deliver yet another CD. INNERISE provide the ultra chilled electronic sounds with 'Western Sky Music'. The production is clean and warm sounding with breathy atmospheric female vocals adding an extra level of soul and humanity to proceedings. You could totally float away to this one. Looking out of the window at the snow that's coming down is making this a weird listening experience. Limited to only 200 copies.

What the label says:

Over the last four years, Make Mine Music – a collective of musicians and independent label – has established a name for itself for its catalogue of beguiling and varied music, from the wistful nostalgia of July Skies and Epic45 to the ambient dreamscapes of Yellow6 and Portal. The next release for the label is the debut album by Innerise, “Western Sky Music”. Innerise has been existence since the mid-1990s in various incarnations, based around composer and multi-instrumentalist Tarl Broad-Ashman. Debuting in 2002 on the split EP with Schengen and Portal, with later tracks appearing on the Make Mine Music compilation “Flow”, Innerise established themselves with a sound uniting elements of pop, ambient, electronica and dub. Recorded in 2004 and 2005, Innerise’s debut album is long awaited. “Western Sky Music” sees Tarl joined on several tracks by singer Katherine Cobley, who adds her beautiful vocals and honest, heart-on-sleeve lyrics. If you’re after reference points, imagine a cross between Saint Etienne, The Orb and the Cocteau Twins and you’d be somewhere close. The stunning artwork for this release was done by Ben Curzon, whose credits include Luke Vibert, Venetian Snares and Mu-ziq.In keeping with other recent Make Mine Music releases by the likes of August Stars, Millimetrik and All Sides (all now sold out), the Innerise album is being made available in limited quantities, so be quick.
