The High Llamas - Can Cladders

Can Cladders by The High Llamas

4...according to our on Fri 23 Feb, 2007.

Hey now THE HIGH LLAMAS with their kitsch lovely 70's singalong. The albums called Can Cladders and its full of melody and tender moments like a couple running in slow motion on a beach in California.Sweeping strings and soft harmonies blend with spanish guitar to woo the listener. It reminds me of a soundtrack to some 70's romantic comedy. There are lots and lots of sweet hooks and moments throughtout the album to keep the lovers out their warm as spring approaches. Nods to The Beach Boys and Glen Campbell. Pretty, retro and sweet.... file under easylistening.

It’s been three years and several months of fortnights since the world was last graced with the sounds of The High Llamas — and, with a handful of exceptions, nearly as long since the Llamas were seen playing their pretty sounds in public. Given the BEET, MAIZE & CORN arrangements, which often removed the rhythm section of the band, leaving a spacious orchestral backing — not to mention the wistful nature of the songs themselves — some of us were given to wonder if The High Llamas were in the winter of their years. The High Llamas are one of alternative rock’s enduring bands, having survived the 90s putsch to make beautiful music in the New Millennium.
