Bobby Conn - King For A Day

King For A Day by Bobby Conn

The definitive Bobby Conn album. ‘King For A Day’ is kind of like Bobby Conn’s ‘Don Quixote’, a record conceived as a soundtrack for a grainy, blurry movie along the lines of a bad VHS tape dub of a Kenneth Anger or Jodorovsky film. And it's all based on true stories. An amazing collection of musicians have been assembled to play on ‘King For A Day’ including the key members of the old Bobby Conn touring band The Glass Gypsies. Joining Colby Starck (drums), Sledd (impossible guitar parts), Monica BouBou (violin and vocals) are a new group of players from a brilliant band called The Detholz. Jim "Dallas" Cooper (bass) and two of his bandmates, Jonny Steinmeier (keyboards) and Karl Doerfer (guitar). From another Bobby Conn favourite band, Mahjonng, comes Josh Johanpeter, who is a “drum monster”, trading off with Colby as well as playing simultaneously, and, finally, Alek Perkolup plays fretless bass on all the heavy numbers. There are also guest appearances by a few favourite session people like John Ridenour, Michael Zerang, Nick Macri, Josh Berman and even John McEntire (Tortoise) makes an appearance playing synth.
