Fat Cat seem to have something out every week. Their office must be a right old hive of activity. This weeks release comes courtesy of HAUSCHKA (Karaoke Kalk / Ear Sugar Jukebox) with an album entitled 'Room To Expand. The piano is at the core of Hauschka's sound. At times the sound is dramatic at others playful. If you enjoyed the recent Gareth S Brown CD then this is worth a whirl as there is a similar Phillip Glass influence in there. Contemporary classical piano music with the subtle addition of brass and vibraphone that makes for a pretty chilled listen.Following acclaimed releases by Max Richter, Sylvain Chauveau and Set Fire To Flames on FatCat’s 130701 imprint comes Hauschka’s incredible ‘Room To Expand’. As modern and contemporary as it is classical, Hauschka’s piano is augmented by drum machines, synths, bass, vibraphone, strings and brass. Recalling the likes of Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Eric Satie, John Cage and Arvo Part, Hauschka’s music is informed by a diverse range of other projects he is involved in – Volker is a member of Music AM, a collaboration with Stefan Schneider (To Rococo Rot) and Luke Sutherland (Long Fin Killie); he also creates electronic/club tracks with Torsten Mauss under the moniker Tonetraeger.
