Kind of like the single by AUTOKAT although I think their banal name sullies their lasting power considerably. It suggests a bunch of no-marks who may have fluked a 1 off split single with Esmerelda's Parakeet on Lissy's in 1997 before a disasterous gig behind Clapham bus terminal came to an unruly climax when a glue sniffer died in their bass drum 30 seconds in. 'Shot' is on Akoustik Anarkhy, a label that usualy puts a deep frown of indifference on my massive face. However it's got an Interpol-ly intro which is allowed now it's really unfashionable & a sparky intensity that grows into a kind of flailing bout of rifferama. They've kind of a similar bombastic feel to Nine Black Alps, not particularly original but if you like good quality meat 'n' Potatoes indie rock with loads of meshed guitars & a spot of athletic zeal then you'll possibly be rather impressed! B-sides tollerable & reasonably catchy too!Two weeks before the release of their debut album, Autokat’s third single wets the appetite for what promises to be one of the most exciting independent records to come out of Manchester for years. ‘Shot/Seven Years’ continues the Autokat story following last year’s highly rated singles 1 and 2 (‘The Driver’ and ‘Dish Out’). In ‘Shot’ the sound is typical Kat - sinister pop with a propelling beat and mantra vocal to soundtrack a dark night or velvet morning. Guitars whirl to a mind-splitting climax between John Kat’s narrative vocal "A Shot In the dark comes down into the city / Life is too short you’ll find with indecision". Limited to 500 only.
