Killa Kela thrives on challenging himself - continuously pushing himself and his music into new areas and in new directions. “Reveal Your Innerself” is Killa Kela’s first release since his debut major album, “Elocution” and it sees him evolve once again. For this new release, Kela has teamed up with one of the most sought after new producers making music at the moment : Badlands of Does It Offend You, Yeah (Virgin), and together they have created an intriguingly simple piece of music that oozes attitude. Built around a sinister bassline and drum pattern, Kela drops a whole range of different vocal moves : from forming part of the beat, to a scratched up sample to a couple of verses of punked up delivery. It’s raw, abrasive stuff but when set against a chorus chock full of creativity and harmony it forms a track of real diversity and interest. Think The Prodigy meets Daft Punk – aggression meets melody. This is Killa Kela 2007. And to back up the original, Kela has enlisted some musical friends to deliver some truly stunning remix work. Plan B takes the energy of the original and delivers a slab of rap vs electronica which represents a form of urban music that could only come from the UK. Likewise Jack Beats (a collaboration of Plus One/Scratch Perverts & Beni G/Mixologists) have re-worked elements of the original to create a sure fire club banger with tinges of grime, hip-hop and breaks, together with a verse from Trip (is there a better MC from these shores?). There’s also an exclusive live version of the track, as well as more confirmed remixes coming in from the Super Furry Animals as well as Full Cycle’s producer of the moment, Clipz. It’s a mind-blowing package.
