What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our BRIAN D feeling ecstatic.

EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY are a new grime act from Cleethorpes I believe. Thier use of sinister B-boy stylings over grumbling quarter-step sludge beats is sick maaaan. Razor sharp social comentary over screaming bass shards, prolapsing seagull yelps & cement mixer distortion make this compelling listening. They even have a voice over on 2 tracks from local Sunday Football League manager Binky Fiasko, A half Polish alcoholic with a stern manner & a lisp rocking on the mic. Yeah! Track 5 'Volvo Vulva' hits like a steamroller on crack for fucks sake. The sound of 30 grannnies being mugged at knifepoint forcefed through a 1983 Pioneer bastardbox Ghettoblaster with MC Sniveller yelling the recipe for his mums Hungarian Goulash backwards through a childs megaphone. The farting gibbon samples on track 9 'The Filth Crapped on my Carpet' just slay you in the face ferchrisakes. I cannot recommend this crazy bunch of homos enough. 'All of a Sudden, I Miss Everyone' is Album of the Month!!!! On USB stick format only as CDs are actually propping up our manager's wonky table at the moment!

What the label says:

Recorded by John Congleton (The Roots, The Mountain Goats) at Pachyderm Studios in rural Minnesota, the album is a massive leap forward, showcasing a broader instrumental range and their most focused, efficient songwriting. It’s also within arm’s length of matching the overwhelming glory of their legendary live shows, trading in the crystalline production of The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place for a paint-peeling intensity that blurs the lines between studio and live performance.
