What we say

Rating: unmoved This record left our Phil feeling unmoved.

Onto Fear of Music who release their debut 7"/CDs on Fastermusic. It's called 'We Are Not The Enemy' and it's medium paced average indie type gear which is very MTV2 and it reminds me of  Cooper Temple Clause, Feeder and other such great, great bands. Am being terribly polite about this bit we think it's a bit rubbish.  I'm sure it's gonna make someone reasonably rich quickly......

What the label says:

We Are Not The Enemy is the latest release from Manchester’s Fear Of Music, the band that infamously won big at In The City while still at school. Two years on, they’re taking on the big boys . Following the John Leckie-produced Fast, Faster, Fastest EP, this is another scarily good release from the newest, greatest art-rockers on the scene.

Heading the EP, We Are Not The Enemy is a hybrid of Fear Of Music’s trademark dark punk and stamping glam rock, their ballsiest track to date. A Blueprint takes things down a notch, with atmospheric pianos, chiming guitars and dynamic textures before The Sheets Twist takes us back into heavy riff territory. In all, it’s another impressive collection from a band who are fast emerging as one of the best of their generation, not least for singer Jo Rose’s apocalyptic lyrics. But in time-honoured fashion, he’ll never reveal what’s really behind them.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
