What we say
What the label says:Up next comes the first UK outing by Athens, GA singer songwriter Matthew Houck's ever changing psychedelic folk/blues band PHOSPHORESCENT. Kind of middle ground between Jeff Mangum and Will Oldham, 2 tunes of gloriously ramshackle disjointed blues delivered in Houck's plaintive, cracked voice. Wonderfully weird yet beautiful poetry delivered among a psychedelic wash of horns, pump organ, pedal steel, choral voices and fuzz guitar. Warmly intimate, soulful psych bettered perhaps only in recent times by Neutral Milk Hotel's mighty "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea". Heartache and pure uplifting joy in equal measure over 2 songs of 5 minutes plus, each. |
