What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our Phil feeling ecstatic.

Well they've only gone and bleedin' done it again. Great Pop Supplement have come up trumps with 2 cracking singles this week. My favourite of the 2 is this one featuring 2 belting tracks by Twisted Nerve's superstars Voice of The Seven Woods and Digitalis wonderkin Hush Arbors. The 7" is limited just 500 copies and it comes in a book style sleeve. Well tasty!! The VOSW track is a stunning piece of medieval sounding instrumental folk. The music sounds like it could have fallen off the 1st Espers album. It's absolutely wonderful stuff from start to end which will send shivers down your folk spine. If it doesn't want to make you start jousting and dance around wearing stupid hats with bells on then you've got no ears. Ant is jousting right now... proof of the pudding!! My first exposure to Hush Arbors is a pleasing one too. It's some dude from Six Organs of Admittance I believe. This is nice psych opium den style folk which has a really hazy lazy feel to it. In complete contrast to the flipside this will make you want to drop your joust and roll up a big fat one instead. Then you can fall over smiling feeling smug with yourself that you got this ace thing of a thing. Well lovely...

What the label says:

The first GPS single of the year pairs the mighty VOTSW with HUSH ARBORS, solo project for Six Organs of Admittance and the Sunburned Hand of the Man's Keith Wood. Rick Tomlinson aka VOTSW needs little introduction after his 2 previous, killer 45s on Twisted Nerve. Stunning psych folk which, in the case of the exclusive "Mist and Snow" here, owes more than a passing nod to the genius of Popol Vuh. Sitars and acoustic merge to lend the track an eastern feel not unlike something from the legendary Vuh "Nosferatu" soundtrack.
Hush Arbors continue the psych trail with the fabulous "Gone on the Way to Know". Best known for his guitar playing with the bands above and Wooden Wand, Keith steps out under his solo guise here, on a split project -the idea for which initially came about with both artists sharing the UK stage last Autumn.  Described as music for those "who love their perfect clothes caked in mud" by Six Organs mainman Ben Chasny, his very personal, emotive lo-fi psych folk sounds otherworldy- like nothing else out there. a great 45, which given VOTSW' presence alone pretty much ensures a short shelf life. a one off pressing of 500 copies and the first of several great 45s on the Great Pop Supplement planned for 2007.
