The Butterflies of Love burst onto the scene in 1998 with their sublime debut single “Rob A Bank”, prompting DJ John Peel to literally applaud on air. Their next single, the glacial “It’s Different Now” made NME Single Of The Week and their debut album “How to Know” garnered equally impressive reviews in Mojo, The Guardian, The Times and NME, to name but a few. Peel invited them in for a session, as did John Kennedy at XFM, Melody Maker wrote that they were the best new band in America and Select named them as one of 10 bands to watch out for in the new millennium. The band released one more single “Wintertime Queen”, a psychedelic whirl of heart-stopping beauty that The Times made their Single Of The Week, before retreating to the studio with Lily’s producer Michael Deming to record their second album “The New Patient” in 2003. Three years later on, their faith in their own ability unbowed, The Butterflies of Love return with their finest set of recordings to date. Mark Mulcahy contributes backing vocals and a pile of tambourines, the recording took place with sonic guru Alap Momin of the band Dalek at his Sweetwater Sound studio in New Jersey. Every track’s a winner, which is why we’re certain that this album is the one to remove that “criminally underrated” tag from around their necks and put all those famous problems to rest. The Butterflies Of Love will return to the UK for live dates in March/April 2007. For Fans Of: Velvet Underground, REM, Pavement, Silver Jews. “Dark, intoxicating music that joins the dots between REM, Phil Spector and Velvets”. (Mojo)
