Now a "traditional" sounding song from Arab Strap member MALCOLM MIDDLETON and "A brighter beat" on Full Time Hobby. A rocky Scottish sounding rock song from to the left of middle of the road. Not a bad song but I have a personal problem with piano sounds on shit keyboards, and as that's the main instrument it can hinder the song and make it sound plastic. B side is a more heartfelt slower acoustic number with the lilting Falkirk accent drifting over almost a traditional Celtic folk music song. What the label says: We will be releasing A Brighter Beat, the debut single from Malcolm  Middleton's new album of the same name, on January 22nd. It will be available on limited edition heavyweight 7" and download. The b-side is the previously unreleased track Point Of Light. The much-anticipated new album is released on February 26th.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
