This here new BONNIE 'PRINCE' BILLY single will lift my spirits. 5 seconds into the 'Lay And Love' and I'm on top of the world. Grinning like a cheshire cat. This is lifted from 'The Letting Go' long player and it's a bleedin' good 'un. Oldham is one of those few people that's able to articulate pure soul and emotion in an almost simplistic childlike manner and still reduce you to tears. The lyrics 'I love you' must have been sung a squillion times before but rarely with such conviction. The picture on the back of him crashed out in his bed with a big beard only adds to my suspicions that this man is indeed a genius. This track also features additional vocals from Dawn Mcarthy. B-side 'Going To Acapulco' is an entertaining drunken blues number with weeping horns. The CD single features bonus track 'Senor' which is simply him and his guitar, which for me is when he's at his best. Brutally honest and raw. It also features a video for 'Lay And Love'. I'm turning this off now before I start to blubber all over the keyboard and make it explode into my big sad face.Third single to be taken from the acclaimed album ‘The Letting Go’. Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy will be coming over to the UK for his first UK tour in years. He’ll be heading to Glasgow, Manchester, Bristol, Nottingham, Cambridge, Brighton and London. Bonnie is to be profiled in a forthcoming two page Observer interview. On the 26th January ‘Old Joy’, a film starring Will Oldham, will be released, so expect further press coverage to accompany release. Whilst Will is over he will undertake an interview with The Independent and several radio sessions for the BBC.
