Mr Henry & The Hot Rats - Mr Henry & The Hot Rats

Mr Henry & The Hot Rats by Mr Henry & The Hot Rats

4...according to our on Fri 05 Jan, 2007.

On the same label we have MR HENRY AND THE HOT RATS. A brooding rock lick led stomper filled album. Its led by Mr Henry sounding a bit Tom Waits and using banjo and piano to good effect with his very talented vermin. (does he mean sexy rats?) Yeh I think!! I thought I was going to disregard this but I think its really good actually .... really great. He's only got 44 friends on myspace. That aint justice!

Mr. Henry is the alias for Enrico Mangione, a young and talented musician from Varese (Italy). This area of northern Italy, rich in waters and woods, brought to us in the last years a lot of beautiful sounds (Bartòk, Midwest, the Candies…), and actually in Mr.Henry first album, titled "Lazily Go Through… " (Ghost Records - 2003) a bunch of musicians from the lake district were credited as guests. The record showed in full Mr.Henry's love for the Blues, filtered through the experiences of names as Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Captain Beefheart. With a throat that reveals a voice as deep as Mark Sandman and Barry Adamson ones, Enrico began to play live sets more acid and punkish in attitude than the first album could let imagine. This mood has been fixed in "& the Hot Rats", the second album on Suiteside / Pulver & Asche. The Hot Rats is the name of the band that join Mr.Henry on stage, but it's also an homage to the genius of Frank Zappa. In the record played Loris and Paco from Hormiga and Marco from Encode. The tracks have been firstly recorded at Sauna Studio in Varese, then Enrico edited the result inside his home studio, adding distorted electronics and noises, in search of an heavier and more intense sound. "& the Hot Rats" is a patchwork of many influences like country and blues music, played with a raw and experimental mood. In this multi-layered work you'll find new and unexpected surprises listening after listening, and for sure the variety of different music that Enrico loves (Joseph Arthur, Edgar Varese, Jon Spencer, White Stripes, Calexico, Springsteen, Death in June, Violent Femmes, Bob Dylan, Shellac, Latin Playboys, Ben Christophers, Radiohead, Wilco, Tim Hutton...) is the explanation for the freedom he allowed to himself.
