Give us your opinion on Ladybird by Shit & Shine. What we say This record left our Phil feeling happy. Keeping on the ole noise tip here's the SHIT & SHINE 12" on Latitudes. Ladybird is a vinyl repress of 500 copies of the CD counterpart that came and went pretty quickly some time back. Packaged in generic Latitudes medieval/ 'doomstyle' artwork you can feel reassuringly cheated after already buying this on CD whilst having to fork out again for the vinyl. If you like that cheated feeling then check out the Sir Richard Bishop reissue (of 700 copies) which we unfortunately forgot to mention last week. It gets a bit hectic here sometimes... Musically this sounds like that late 80's early 90's US noise stuff and I'm instantly thinking of Crackhouse and the Noiseville stuff. It rocks... it's scuzzy and filthy sounding and if you like your music to make you feel unclean then get the bath on cos you'll need a long soak after this. Loverrrrly. What the label says: Shit & Shine are a band that follow their own formula - the kind of devious experiment at the back of the science lab that blows the room apart: 4 drummers + 2 bassists + 1 toy keyboard = 1 riff x 42 minutes = evil fun!

About the humble LP:

The LP is the daddy of formats. 12" inches of sheer joy. The LP adds to the glory of the 12" record as it can be played at a slower speed (33rpm instead of the usual 45rpm for singles), consequently more musical joy can be had. Played on a decent deck the sound of an LP is about a million times better than any other format. They look fantastic...... a nice gatefold sleeve with a information rich inner sleeve will keep you entertained for hours even before your stylus has chance to make eye contact with it's 12" prey. An essential part of musical heritage which will never be forgotten. It still does play at a multitude of speeds but as it's recorded to be played slower they normally sound ridiculous sped up. Though double albums can make up for this slight inadequacy by ramming more tunes into your ears for your money. Utterly essential.
