Limited vinyl sampler from the second full length by Belgian duo 40winks, who have been making and releasing music for over 4 years and have previously released on several underground Japanese labels, as well as a few in Europe. This is their first appearance on a US label. ‘Sound Puzzle’ is a smooth storybook-like collection focused on the aesthetics of raw jazzy hip hop and the complex layering and arrangements of samples from a variety of sources. This 12” EP has a careful selection of about half of the full length CD tracks, cutting out some interludes, getting straight to the meat and bones of some delicious hip hop electronica. A collection of beats and instrumentals was composed and polished in 2006 with a strong influence of early 90’s hip hop production and excessive crate digging. Merck DJ’s should feel right at home mixing this in with some Aphilas or Malcom Kipe. 600 copies only, with a random selection on coloured vinyl.
