I'm reliably informed by the sleeve notes of 'The Snow Queen' that SYMPHONIKA is the Orchestral project of Ooberman front-man Dan Popplewell. This has a definite Christmas / winter feel. Very festive sounding indeed. 'Ride To The Winter Palace' could have come from a Tim Burton movie. The tracks on here were originally written for film and TV and feature strings from The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. They make us feel like we're in some Christmas Disney movie. CD only. I could murder a mince pie.
About Symphonika Since 2004 Ooberman writer/singer/producer Dan Popplewell has been writing orchestral music for film, TV and animations. The Symphonika project will collect his best work into themed instrumental albums, beginning with 'The Snow Queen' - a shivery, wintery album out on December 4th 2006. Ooberman fans will recognise this sound as a thread running through the band's music, from 'The Magic Treehouse' to 'Here Come the Ice Wolves' and the recent 'Twinkling Aurora' which was actually taken from this new album. All tracks feature strings from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and many also feature the hypnotic voice of Ooberman's lead singer Sophia Churney, albeit in the form of abstract oohs and ahs.
