Some quick 7" reviews now cos Big Brian's ill and we all a bit rushed . So here's the BLAH BLAH BLASE with Grandad. He sings like a stroppy kid with hunched shoulders and bored expression puffing out his jarry lyrics over low fi electronic beats and noodling. Quite catchy in a sick way, like a less intense Joy Division. Novelty
Naughty Englishman Nathan Doom (Twisted Charm vox-man) and French electro DJ duo Camille Chazara & Marine Cabour (aka The Frenchies) first met at the Buffalo Bar early 2006. Having shared a mutual amusement for the live show by Selfish Cunt that night, they decided to embark on an electro-punk journey of their own, albeit, far less contrived and indulgent. The girls are prettier than Twisted Charm and they sweat less on stage was Dooms response to why he started a side project, which adequately typifies the nonchalance behind Blah Blah Blas and their tendency to not take themselves too seriously. A-side Grandad illustrates a humorous slant on growing old before your time whilst holding onto chauvinistic ideals; I dont get feminism, does it mean how women look? whilst the flipside Infatuation, however, sensitively explores delusion and obsession. All this against a backdrop of thumping drum machines, hypnotic bass-lines and atmospheric guitars and synths that place Blah Blah Blas head and shoulders over their peers.
