JO APPS is a name I'm unfamiliar with yet intrigued by, as the 'Kausikan' 7" is a rather skull wolloping blend of half speed drum and bass, hip hop, odd electronics, BBC Radiophonic workshop bleeps, what sounds a little like a synthetic steel drum and some mental clanger sounds. This is Clanger grime if you please. In fact I'm amazed that this wasn't produced in a protective environment and foil sealed such is it's freshness. The flipside 'Kawaii Guy' is also pretty tasty with it's tough, driving rhythms, crackly string samples and eerie ambience. This may well appeal to folks that like Duophonic stuff and are interested in checking out some more electronic sounding gubbins. This is really out on its own. Extremely well thought out and constructed electronic music that immediately has us three baldies going. GO hereJo Apps has been in our lives for years. She was the angelic voice provoking us with “Keep jumping, you bastards!” on Venetian Snares’ classic ’Dance Like You’re Selling Nails’. Then she graced Capitol K, playing bass for a year or two. Some fans know her as the sister of Patrick Wolf, but we wanted her solo material for it’s skillfully crafted, unique and simply breathtaking. So at long last here it is, the debut single from Jo Apps, former sound design School of Music and old skool Londontown electronica goddess. This will be the first in a long line of historic tweakage from the dear lady.
