It took me a few listens to get into MAGIK MARKERS. At first I wasn't sure the Lo-fi production (or live recording sound) on their records delivered the power or captured the intensity I wanted from their unhinged drowning in a sea of smack sound. I eventually got into them though and I reckon they're well smart. This here CD 'The Voldoror Dance' captures the band at their best. De tuned guitar and wailing female vocals and some clattering metallic percussion do the job nicely. I'm excited about seeing these play at ATP next weekend. If any of you guys are going to be attending feel free to come over and say 'Hi!' I'll be the man in the corner in a pool of his own filth....Also on the excellent Latitudes is one from CIRCLE. Now I honestly couldn't give two fucks if this was the best or worst record in the universe. The band are all wearing Judas Priest style full on metal studded leather wrist bands on the obligatory band shot snap. This reason alone deems this worthy of godly status. Actually 'Tyrant' is some cool freaked out drugged up menacing shit. Your mother wouldn't like it.
Latest in the ultra-limited Latitudes series from the Sonic Youth championed Magik Markers. 200 only, act fast! Seriously... Hailing from Hartford, Conneticut, Magik Markers have a very strong underground following and have toured with kindred spirits such as Sunburned Hand Of The Man, Wolf Eyes and No-Wave legends Sonic Youth. Catch them at All Tomorrows Parties and other gigs this December.
