Dat Politics - Are Oui Phony

Kicking things off with DAT POLITICS' 'Are Oui Phony??' album. It's 8:30 am here and this CD is doing a perfect job at easing me into the day. I was listening to Fennesz / Vaino on the way in, which was suitably gloomy as it was still dark. This is a super fun smiley happy electro pop odyssey with a slight whiff of cheese. They're such a cheerful bunch with their quirky, almost cartoonish take on electronic music. Lots of snappy drum machine rhythms, 8-bit melodies, insane vocals and gritty synths. This is actually fairly accessible in many places with splatterings of pop sensibility. Although you do get the feeling your in a SNES game on acid at times. I'm reminded of Printed Circuit and Chicks on Speed in places. Great fun. CD only on Tigerbeat 6...I'm smiling!!!! What's happening to me???

Faster than any mutant superheros, French electronic musical mavericks DAT Politics return with a new mini-album full of electronic collage and noisy pop songs. These seven new tracks could be considered the perfect winter complement to Wow Twist, their Spring 2006 album for Chicks on Speed Records. Are Oui Phony keeps the speed level at the maximum, for the most part setting aside songwriters Gaetan and Claude's pop indulgence in favor of utter breakbeats madness. The album also features a special guest appearance from Tigerbeat6 recording artist Kevin Blechdom.
