Greenwich Resident - I Hid My Heroes

I Hid My Heroes by Greenwich Resident

4...according to our on Thu 23 Nov, 2006.

Next up is a 5 track EP from GREENWICH RESIDENT. 'I Hid My Heroes' immediately makes me think of Badly Drawn Boy albeit slightly more twee and without the Bruce Springsteen obsession. Whether they wear hats all the time I'm afraid I can't tell you. This has commercial appeal as the songs are strong and the production is polished yet there is a real sense of credibility. Very sincere sounding acoustic music with some lovely Cello, Violin and Viola. CD only on Robot Records. CHECK

Greenwich Resident was formed naturally and with that comfortable feeling you get when everything happens with ease and purpose.Their sound is hard to place, but feels endlessly familiar upon first listen. Toms vocal style has been compared to Elliott Smith, Sufjan Stevens, Stephen Malkmus, Appleseed Cast and Modest Mouse. Some people even liken him to Lou Reed and Bob Dylan. In February 2006, the band was offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play an exclusive Jack Daniels event where they had an invite-only crowd come to a disused railway arch in London that had been converted into the perfect club. From the JD Set, they were personally picked to appear on the 2006 Watch This Space compilation, as well as having 2 tracks on a split compilation (Siamese Flowers - The Story of Robot! & Pastel) between Korean label Pastel Music and Robot! Records. To add to this, Greenwich Resident have been a permanent fixture on Manchesters main Indie Chart- staying for weeks at a time at number one and not leaving the chart in over four months.
