Bilge Pump/ Pifco - Split

Split by Bilge Pump/ Pifco

Waiting my life for Leeds skronk rock kings BILGE PUMP to release a new album knowing it'll never fulfill my desire for their incendiary live shows. If Albini produced them i'm positive they'd destroy people. Surprisingly, on this ltd split 7" on Run of the Mill, they change their style to suit a favourite Jonathan Richman track, 'Government Center' They do the beach diner waltz rock thing with squalling, discoradant aplomb. I like it. It's on pink vinyl too. PIFCO tackle 'She Cracked', another song i'm unfamiliar with. They turn in a stuck-in-a-dustbin quality treble-fest with thumping gutter-drums, muffled vox & a spiraling guitar that's shattering. Sounds more like the Stooges Jr from here! Ace..

Well here it is, the next installment to our unique They Do Them split 7 series. This time round we have the mighty Bilge Pump from Leeds surprising their die hard fans with a pure rock n roll cover of Jonathan Richmans Government Center. For those of you not familiar with Bilge Pump then this single is not a very clear representation of their sound! They step away from the well loved Led Zeppelin meets James Brown with Monty Python lyrics formula and go clean cut pop. You cant really go wrong with a rock n roll song and hand claps. On the flip side Pifco, also from Leeds, take a very different approach to their track She Cracked. Sticking to the lo-fi Fall like sound that this guitar and drums two piece do best, with the quirky addition of a Major Morgan instead of keyboards. Close your eyes and imagine dancing along to this in the darkest, dirtiest disco you know...perfect.
