A Senile Animal by Melvins

It's amazing how those bits of loose change pile up, I'll have enough change to snaffle THE MELVINS 'A Senile Animal' album. This is their first non-collaborative studio album in four years I think and with their new bass player and additional drummer (Coady Willis and Jarred Warren from Big Business) they sound as tight and rockin' as ever. The new musicians fit into the Melvins sound perfectly and with the extra drums the sound becomes even more powerful. I always get excited about a new Melvins album and this does not disappoint. Seamlessly fusing the punk rock and metal aesthetic with innovative arrangements, aggressive chugging riffs and heavy drums. There are some catchy little tunes on here like 'Civilized Worm' and 'A History Of Bad Men'. This is the fourth time I've listened to this and it just keeps growing on me like some horrible rash, infectious and dirty. It's not as 'sludge' as some of the earlier albums. It's kind of upbeat, I'd compare it possibly to' Houdni' or the 'Maggot' in terms of the heavy metal sound .I have nothing but love for this band and I can't freakin' wait to see them live again in December. Totally recommended from me. On Ipecac.
