The Victorian English Gentlemens Club - Amateur Man

Proper loved that last Victorian English Gentlemens Club thing. Was utterly fabulous. Can't quite derive as much spastic energy from 'Amateur Man', the follow up. It's got strange shards of weirdness weaving through it but the dementia sounds a little more contrived & the music is basically Pixies lite interspersed with flecks of a school child's idea of what the first Deus album may have sounded like. Yes. Judging by the other tune, 'Ban The Gin', they just ate the entire Pixies back catalogue & are now spewing it out in an anglo "just drank 3 litres of old english cider and am feeling a bit mad" fashion for the satisfaction of kids too young to remember/be bothered with old fat Bostonians. Still, bags of energy & passion evident. I'd buy it if I wasn't just an old jaded cynic clutching onto the past like a leper. 7" only as the CD has been eaten by all the other shops. Sorry!
