What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our Brian feeling ecstatic.

Digging this GARDEN CD we are. 'Round & Round' is Static Caravan's latest future pop masterpiece & just get those hooks. It all reminds me a lot of undervalued Manc geniuses Simian, probably cause Garden's mainman Simon Lord also fronted those psychedelic popsters through their baffling years of chart outsiderdom. This album is definitely gonna be the benchmark for the next wave of progressive modern folk. Not only does it work on many levels (from casual listener to psych pop obsessive) but the 12 tunes crafted here are wonderfully produced gems influenced by classic folk singer songwriter, yr palatable end of prog & that very same forward thinking tripped out pop that Simian blended so quaintly. This is the best thing on the label since Tunng's debut & was a very close contender for album of the week!

What the label says:

Simon Lord, once the front man of twisted pop quartet Simian, is now the creative force behind a new psychedelic folk project: Garden. He also has many production credits to his name including Findlay Brown and Barbarosa.

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.
