Who indeed, the chuff, are The Mardy Bums? Not so much a tribute to der Arctics, more a trad indie homage to catchy working mans club singalonga pub rock. I can imagine our Peelie loving this actually with it's sardonic Southern baiting lyrics coming across like true tongue in cheek Yorkshire prose. The refrain 'You tight arse bugger' on 'Put Wood in hole' should be reverberating throughout the more discerning indie nite spots as we speak. 'Does it say doormat on me back' is the flip & quite frankly, I'm gently impressed at their unpretentious & earthy attitude to songwriting. Better than Harrisons as far as I give a toss, with these two brief & catchy homespun indie "classics" on heavyweight peach vinyl through the eternally collectable SPC, you've got another hit on yer hands gents! (the back of the sleeve features supposed outraged chatroom postings from Arctic's MONKEYS fuming at the prospect of a "tribute"s band....hahaha!)Be the first to review this record.
