What we say This record left our Brian feeling happy. Who indeed, the chuff, are The Mardy Bums? Not so much a tribute to der Arctics, more a trad indie homage to catchy working mans club singalonga pub rock. I can imagine our Peelie loving this actually with it's sardonic Southern baiting lyrics coming across like true tongue in cheek Yorkshire prose. The refrain 'You tight arse bugger' on 'Put Wood in hole' should be reverberating throughout the more discerning indie nite spots as we speak. 'Does it say doormat on me back' is the flip & quite frankly, I'm gently impressed at their unpretentious & earthy attitude to songwriting. Better than Harrisons as far as I give a toss, with these two brief & catchy homespun indie "classics" on heavyweight peach vinyl through the eternally collectable SPC, you've got another hit on yer hands gents! (the back of the sleeve features supposed outraged chatroom postings from Arctic's MONKEYS fuming at the prospect of a "tribute"s band....hahaha!)

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
