Yura Yura Teikoku - Soft Death

Soft Death by Yura Yura Teikoku

I'm fascinated with Japan and its culture especially its music scene. I love a bit of Japanese noise, especially in the morning. They don't just make blistering white noise over there though, they can write decent tunes too, such as this interesting 12" I have here by Japanese artist Yura Yura Teikoku. 'Soft Death' has some mind warping, electronic noise over a heavy repetitive drum groove with a vocal that makes me think of Damo Suziki (that's a real lazy comparison). Phillip says this is a little like Spacemen 3 at times. This is a bit of an epic so no surprises but then this is the 'Long Remix'. I've just flipped the vinyl and played the B-side on 45rpm instead of 33 1/3rpm so it sounds like Pinky and Perky which is entertaining. I'm so childish. Actually I'm really into them at the moment, they are so under rated, I think they're a pair of musical geniuses. 'Octopuss'es' Garden is a stone cold classic. We need more singing animals. Erm this is on New York Label Mesh Key.
