What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our Phil feeling ecstatic.

Onto iLiKETRAiNS who have a comp CD out on Fierce Panda. They're from Leeds this lot you know. This is a comp of their singles 'n all and it's called Progress Reform. I've never really got my head around them before but listening to this CD as a whole it makes a lot more sense and I'm not entirely sure how well suited their music is to a 7" format and had it all come out on LP I think it would have made more sense to me. The guitars sound incredibly like Godspeed.... in fact it sounds a cross between Godspeed and Tindersticks fronted by Nick Cave or something. ie gothy sounding vocals over big post rock thing. I haven't heard anyone do the Godspeed thing as well as these guys so that is to be commended. The last track is an awful lot like Michael Gira's Angels Of Light. It's fantastic in fact! I like the fact they wear vintage railway uniforms on stage. Easily the best thing I've heard on Fierce Panda in donkeys..... You need this in your life!

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.

'don't put your hands where you wouldn't put your face'
