Smog now... Yep ole Bill is back with a new CD EP on Domino. 4 tracks in total. The first 2 are the strongest tracks off the last album in my opinion and they be Rock Bottom Riser and I Feel Like The Mother of The World. The other 2 tracks are new ones as far as I'm aware. If not, you're being skanked and you should get on the blower to trading standards. Am not sure who's not blame but mention us and Domino and trading standards will get the fuckers..... This is great. You'll be hard pushed to find anything more miserable and heartfelt this week. It's typical that I get into Smog on his 10th album... I suppose there's the joys of plundering back catalogues to be had...... This features rent-a-harp Joanna Newsom amongst others......You should all get this and and play it your partners and they'll kiss your face. If you're single play it to yourself and cry into your pillows. That's what I used to do now I'm married so there's hope for everyone.......Two heavy, heavy cuts from A River Ain’t Too Much To Love open this disc which also includes their accompanying videos.
The video for ‘I Feel Like The Mother Of The World’ features Academy Award nominee (and swell gal!) Chloe Sevigny in a starring role and Bill Callaghan as supporting actor. The video for ‘Rock Bottom Riser’ is a magical, animated feature that rings bells you forgot existed.
The two-non-ARATMTL songs on this single were written for the album but not recorded until a few months later. They offer two more stepping stones within the riverbed.
Recorded At Electrical Audio in the midst of the U.S. tour, they are glossier and deeper than the album cuts.
‘Bowery’, a pre-folk gospel song, shows that the river has been flowing long before we were born and the death it causes comes from that same pre-birth, pre-folk period.
‘Fools Lament’ (note the lack of apostrophe) is a countrypolitan romp full of bon sequitirs that somehow manages to tear and gash at one with the power of a lion at play.
