What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

You may or may not know this by now but Can are and were the best band of all time. My opinion hasn't been swayed in the last 15 years. Anything before 1974 is incredible..... Mute know this and they swallowed up Spoon Records some time back. Any excuse to reissue something.......anything.... one excuse?? Anyone think of one? OK they've reissued 'I Want More' which was their UK hit back in 1976 and this is the 30th anniversary of that. It didn't even chart highly or anything... Tenuous at best.....There is some great footage of Noel Edmonds introducing them on Top of The Pops in '76. Noel and Can together in the same room.... how much would you pay??..... remarkable..... It's not my favourite Can tune by any stretch. Originally released on the Flow Motion LP from 1975 it's a proto disco classic which could possibly appeal if you liked Arthur Russell. It's a bit cheesey like at times though. The orange vinyl 12" has mixes by Irmin Scmidt and Holger Czukay and I can't tell what is on the 7" picture disc cos the stupid label is in the way and it's all sealed. At the end of the day it's Can and we all need a bit of Can in our lives........ Check out Ege Bamyasi, Monster Movie, Tago Mago, Future Days and Delay 68..... all classics.....

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
