Revep by Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto

5...according to our on Thu 07 Dec, 2006.

I'll begin with 'Revep' which is a rather scrumptious clear vinyl pressing of an EP that was previously available on CD on Raster Noton from the immensely talented ALVA NOTO & RYUCHI SAKAMOTO. I'm sure there's gonna be loads of academic stuff written about how cutting edge this is so I wont bother going there. The deal here is basically Sakamoto plays some sublime ultra soothing piano and Alva Noto A.K.A Roster Noton head honcho Carsten Nicolai gets busy with the laptop providing some click and glitch action. A deeply beautiful record and perfect for monging out to after a hard days graft. Thumbs up.

after the success of "insen" this collaborative project has not reached its conclusion. to co-inside with the second major insen tour by carsten nicolai aka alva noto + ryuichi sakamoto in 2006, raster-noton releases the revep cd single. this cd-ep offers unreleased pieces from the sessions and musical exchanges that began with "vrioon" and found its next level with "insen". with an aura of mystery revep breaks the rules of traditional acoustics such as the separation of sound and noise. "you hardly can go further, hardly can get deeper into the structure of sounds - in order to discover a beauty never heard before." tim lorenz, groove. revep features >ax mr.l.<, a track where the artists fall back on the renowned composition by sakamoto - the theme music of the movie "merry christmas mr. lawrence" with david bowie and takeshi kitano from 1983.
