I'm like a big sweaty toad. Kicking off this week with a rather splendid independent music compact disc release. Ribbit... It's The Static Waves' Debut long player and its a cracking little album. Released on the North of England 's Sea imprint its a glorious racket made by four people with musical instruments. The influences are all present in the sound, Trumans Water, The Fall, Stereolab, Swell Maps and yet it doesn't sound entirely like any of them, just little bits here and there. The guitar riffs are crooked and scratchy and the drums are pretty tight. Great piece of DIY gear this. apparently Mr Peel was a fan of the singles too... Ribbit.
